This will be Chris’ second SSS TransPac race and his second visit to Hawaii. With a PHRF akin to a coconut Chris welcomes the three other water-line challenged boats entered in this year’s race. Chris’ goals are: to find the list of “things to do” he threw over-board last time; not get caught in the Pacific High (or lack thereof), again; catch a fish, again; enjoy the sail, again; and cross the finish line in time for the awards ceremony.

Chris grew up sailing on the East Coast with his parents; from his father he learned about shorthanded sailing, as it was usually just the two of them. Most of his racing experience comes from sailing SSS events on the left coast as well as Lazers and 420’s on Buzzard’s Bay, MA.

Navigation: 2 Garmin handheld GPS, sextant and HO-249 tables.

Steering:Autohelm ST4000, Autohelm ST2000, Monitor windvane (a.k.a. the Metal Jesus)

Communication:

Food: Pre-cooked at home “seal-o-meal” items, canned goods and anything tasting good rolled up in a tortilla (will have seaweed, wasabi and soy sauce on hand in the event that fishing turns into catching).

Special thanks: The “A-dock” crew (past and present), the SSS, Synthia “Skull Crusher Johnson” Petroka, Jim, Scott, Susan + George, Laurence, my parents, and most importantly J.
