I started sailing dinghy in high school in Japan and the love of Sea has always drawn me back to Sailing.

After college and graduate school at McGill in Mathematics, my work took me to beautiful British Columbia 30 years ago; and I started sailing from Vancouver, it was a Cal20.

Later moved to Southern California and sailed off Marina del Rey in the weekends. Interruped by heavy work schedule, I had to quit; until we moved to the Bay area; then I bought an Aries 32, started sailing in honest; later selling the boat to Bob Von Blaken, who sails Misty all over N.America.

In 1991 I bought a S&S designed Swan 47, which was a handful for one person at the start, but as we sailed together the boat became my companion and friend, going through some rough passages together.

In 2000, I sailed up to B.C. from San Francisco alone, and later my wife joined me to cruise the beautiful Northwest; where I plan to head for, after the race.

“WENLEMIR” is a combination of My name (Wen), my wife (Lepa), and our daughter (Mirjana). My failed 2004 Transpac due to health reasons and the damage to the boat sometimes gives me uneasiness, but with what I think is an extensive preparation I hope to enjoy the voyage. Also; I wanted to do the 2008 TransPac to regain my optimism in life; after the passing of my parents in the past year.
