If you haven't seen this already, a very nice list of lat/lon for YRA marks was put together at: https://github.com/nkiesel/YRA-Marks/blob/master/San_Francisco.csv

I took the list and generated a public google map with all of the marks. This can be copied and used to generate your own maps for race courses.

I created a .kml file for Google Maps https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0EaBhS11kVedzdmMTdra0NjZlE/edit?usp=sharing and a .gpx file for Garmin and other GPS devices. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0EaBhS11kVeX193U1lmMHgtT2M/edit?usp=sharing

Cool, I will put this into my GPS.

Do you know if these locations are surveyed, or just the nominal/chart positions of the buoys? I'm thinking these are actual observations based on discussion here

Also see here http://www.well.com/~pk/YRAmarks.html for similar mark issues.

The marks are not official or surveyed. This is more for informational purposes but they look pretty close to me. Any corrections, let me know and I'll update the map. I too will be checking on the GPS to see if any of the common ones we use are off like if Colorado Reef is in the right place on the way to HMB. From the nkissel gihub web site https://github.com/nkiesel/YRA-Marks/blob/master/README.md here is the citation for the source of the mark coordinates. If anyone finds out who this person is, I'd like to thank them for the list of coordinates.

" GPS coordinates for YRA Racing marks in San Fancisco Bay

This project contains GPS coordinates for nearly all racing marks in the San Francisco bay and some other "interesting" marks. The information here was collected from multiple sources:

existing web sites
NOAA ENC charts
sailing clubs"

The coordiantes looked to be fairly accurate but any corrections would be welcomed.

FWIW, here is another list, data sources and survey dates not given...

http://l-36.com/location.php

There was an old, old Lat38 article that talked about mark positions, where they were supposed to be (charted) where they would really be on the chart, and where your GPS would truly find them (offset from chart lat/long because of slight errors in datum, etc. )

Hi,

I'm the collector of these GPS coordinates, and my name is Norbert Kiesel. For the longest time I had a collection of web sites with incomplete and sometimes wrong coordinates for the YRA race marks, but somehow something was always missing. So one day I decided to create the mother of all collections. I used some web sites, but mostly OpenCPN to find the coordinates. For some of the marks (e.g. the Olympic circle), I went out there before or after races and confirmed/updated the coordinates. I also race out of Redwood City (Sequoia Yacht Club), therefore the South Bay marks (which might come handy for some sailors with the Westpoint Harbor being added as a YRA race).

I often sail on "For Pete's Sake" (Ultimate 24) and sometimes on "Peaches" (Express 27) or "Frequent Flyer" (Farr 30). So if you run into me at one of the YRA races say "Hi".

Oh, and if you have corrections or additions, send me a PM at nk at iname dot com.
