View Full Version : Moving the site to a new hosting provider

Hi All,

In the next couple of days I will be moving all the SSS website stuff over to a new host provider. This will give us more space and hopefully better support at essentially the same cost.

So there may be a day or two when the forum or other parts of the site are unavailable, or misbehaving. It is also possible that we might lose a post or two from the forum in the process. The price of progress.

Thanks

David

We're back. Throwing the switch on a Friday might not have been the best choice, in hindsight.

Thanks David.

If anyone still has their bookmark set to sfbaysss.net/forum (like I did), it will say the site is down for maintenance. The link from the SSS home page is correct.

OK thanks for the report. I will try to get .net pointed at the new host, but the old host is so crappy I don't know if this will happen soon.

We also have singlehandedtranspac.org and possibly .com to use...

Thanks!

The SHTP site is broken at the moment, don't worry everything is still there and will be fixed. It is in the process of moving to /SHTP2014/ to make way for the 2016 race and new site.

OK, the SHTP2104 site is more or less fixed, on to the future.

David.

Am experiencing difficulty posting pics I didn't previously experience. Only small files now allowed, "must not exceed 97.7 kb." In addition, all my old posting thumbnails have changed to outsized pics, that cropout much of the photo. Or photos, posted by others, have disappeared altogether. Strange. Best Regards, Skip

I bumped up some of the allowed sizes, maybe you were posting a .gif or .jpe, not a jpg.

I changed to showing full size images, and hope that people will not go crazy and post images 3000 pix wide. I thought our old system with the tiny thumbs wasn't so great.

There are about 2000 settable parameters for the forum, many are a matter of personal taste.

Here are some of the current attachment settings.

I increased the max JPG size to 1 MB, 2000x2000 pix.

Images seem to show up fine in IE, but not showing up in Firefox. Who knows why.

OK, when logged in as a regular user, images seem to show up in FF, Chrome, IE, but not iOS.

When logged in as admin or maybe mod, no images.

Weird bug in Firefox having to do with cookies -- when direct viewing attachments it thinks you are not logged in. Changed privileges of guests to they can see/download attachments. Seems to have fixed it. Maybe, again.

If only I could write a GUI to trace the IP address...

Hi David,
As always, thanks for your efforts to keep us connected!
Yesterday, on my post about Bristlecones, I attached 3 photos of trees, each approx. 250 Kb. Each JPG. Using Firefox at my end.
The 3 photos appeared on the bottom of Forum thread post cropped by about 25-50%.
Not technical in this area at my end. I do know my previous thumbnail photos attachments usually worked out OK. This just an FYI.
