(I'm not a race organizer but I'll post here anyway.)

"Four nations will join this summer's Rim of the Pacific drills in Hawaii, increasing the number of countries participating in the world's largest international maritime exercise to 27. Brazil, Denmark, Germany and Italy will take part for the first time in the biennial RIMPAC, which is slated to begin June 30 and end Aug. 4, the Navy said Tuesday."

Does your AIS speak Chinese? Oh wait, military ships don't transmit on AIS. Well, rest assured they'll see you before you see them!

Near the end of the 2012 SHTP, ~160 nm from the finish, I had a close encounter with what turned out to be an Aussie cruise missile ship. I spotted them approaching me midday and indeed there was no AIS signal. The radar indicated a collision and before i doused or jibed the chute i tried hailing them on VHF and SSB. They eventually answered and informed me in that friendly down-under way that they saw me and I was 'safe mate, carry on.' I crossed a comfortable distance in front of her bow. Later I met a lot of the RIMPAC sailors in Pearl Harbor where the Pearl Harbor Yacht Club sponsored a sailboat regatta in the middle lock. My write up of the regatta experience was published in Sep 2012 Latitude 38, see page 75 in https://issuu.com/latitude38/docs/l38201209

Hopefully China won't have annexed Kauai by the time we get there.
