Provisioning isn't just food, is it? Doesn't it include batteries and music and clothes and bars of soap and books and pajamas and bean bags? We are looking for someone who is interested in making a presentation on the topic during our seminar series. The date is May 12, 2016. In the meantime, former Transpac ers, what did it mean to you and what ideas can you share?

The whole Indian food thing from Trader Joe's works well for me. They're meant to be microwaved, like the variously flavored packets of rice on the same shelves. Biz model is "people who only have 15 minutes for lunch." The pouches heat fine just dumped in a frying pan. None of it needs refrigeration.

Books? Oh, don't get me started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_yKEY5ty9Y

I can vouch for Christian being hale and hearty in Nawiliwili last Summer, so his recipe must work. With no refrigeration or microwave, I'm a fan of trader Joe and Costco bulk foods. Organic eggs last for weeks, and cabbage lasts well too, as do nuts and soup, and Guinness. FWIW, I read nothing on the way to Hanalei but read a lot coming home. Water, and the need for redundant sources, is crucial and has been discussed in other threads.

OMG, this was really humorous and enlightening :) How often do YouTube videos do that?! Some of these are already on my boat shelf, but there are more fish and whale guides than sailing bios and intellectual tomes. Will have to change up some of that before the big sail.

Jackie, perhaps this could be shown as the opening to the provisioning seminar.

I think a funnier video would be of you trying to explain your boat library.

It would put them all to sleep! You looked it over and rolled your eyes, remember? I think you called me a nerd or something, and then asked if I had any magazines. I handed you that glossy DAN magazine, Alert Diver, with all those cool centerfolds of crinoids ;) You just went straight to your berth and went to sleep, remember??

Oh, wait...you're being sarcastic, aren't you?!

I made some Logan Bread nearly 2 weeks ago, and it is still fine. There are a lot of recipes online. I used one that had equal amount regular flour, whole wheat, and oats, and no eggs. Kind of like a make-at-home Cliff bar, but tastes better.

I've also done trips with lots of Landjager, but these might not be for everyone. http://www.wisconsinmade.com/gift-ideas/Bavaria-Landjager-28.aspx

After doing a bareboat charter this summer on a boat with an actual working fridge, I'm finally fixing mine so I can have fresh food for a while. And ice, which we know is the hallmark of civilization (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbieKj2m4pU).

Don't forget you can also catch fish for dinner.
