So I got my PHRF rating: 258 (seconds per mile). I did the math, and I came up with an SHTP rating of 470. With a handicap of nearly 12 days (by my reckoning), what's the likelihood I'd even get there in 21 days? Has anyone with that high a handicap ever finished in 21 days? I'd hate to miss the party -- and the shipping boat back.
From the stats on the Pearson Ariel website, I get a SHTP rating of 264 based on a PHRF of 258. If you PM me with your e-mail I'll forward the Excel spreadsheet.
BLACK FEATHERS, a Cal 20 with a SHTP rating of 276 made it before the deadline in 2008. It took just shy of 20 days and it was not a particularly windy year. A Dana 24 has finished twice before the deadline.
So it's possible. You'll miss a bunch of tree times but maybe not the party.
(Wine-induced edit) Is it worth trying? Dude... you're sailing to Hawaii.

Thanks! Your SHTP rating is correct. I messed up the math. I read the book Black Feathers, which I very much enjoyed. I was unaware of the vessel's high rating.
