When is it!?!?

July is 10 months away, and that's not a lot of time to prep a boat for this kind of race - do we have a start date???

Thanks,

Jason

2016 NOR was dated September 15, 2015. So I think we're close to seeing the 2018 NOR. Looking at prior year start dates, I'm guessing June 30, 2018. That's all of 310 days away, but who's counting?

Well then, when you put it like that, it makes my stomach lurch a bit! I am not aware that the dates have been set yet, but I recall some vague discussion during one of the meetings about starting it a bit earlier to avoid the hurricanes. Nothing was decided as I recall.

Are you new to SSS? If so, welcome! Do you have your boat in the bay area?

I am new to SSS. But I keep my boat in Galveston Bay (yes, she's tucked away right now as Harvey sits off the coast). She's Olson 30 #202 ("Concussion"). We just finished up the Bermuda 1-2 and had a blast, although finishing with a broken mast was a bit of a challenge.

Yeah, good to get the mast tested and bomb proof if you want to sail off into the sunset here. I've only done the LongPac thus far, but it can certainly be a bit "sporty" for the first few hundred miles offshore. See you next year!

I had heard of June 11th ... but yeah it'd be good to see the date finalized :-)

not to put an end to the speculation; It will be a Saturday, and it will be in June.

Unofficially, 6/23 is the most likely date.
NOR should be out early next week.

I like the "avoid the hurricanes" part. Let's do that please. Let's avoid the 45 Knot tropical depressions too. Can we just have 3 days of gale alley followed by 9 or 10 (or ,in my case, 12) days of warm and glorious bright blue weather sailing in 15 to 20 knots? Great...thank you.

This makes the thought of doing a repeat of the LongPac almost bearable!

Pacific Cup, Vic Maui, even R2AK all have their 2018 start dates posted. We are going to do this in 2018, right? 98 days left in 2017.

Would love for this to be posted! I check several times a day to see if it's been posted.

I will send this again as the last attempt may have failed
The start date is June 22 to align with tides and events at CYC and NYC. The clubs at both ends. More info will appear in the NOR.

My calendar shows June 22, 2018 as a FRIDAY.

NOt everyone is as superstitious as me but FRIDAY?

Hmmm.

I heard there was a superstition regarding starting a journey on Friday.
Don't know what or why.

Thought I read somewhere on this forum about a Saturday start, 23rd?
Sure would make it easier for family and friends to see us off.

2711The NOR is now available. It will be on the web site shortly. See the copy attached here as well.

As to a Saturday start, we are still pursuing this. If anyone has sway with the Corinthian Yacht Club it might be possible still. They have been so accommodating in the past in letting us use their race deck, and this year is no different. The complication is the arrival of classic yachts on Saturday, which complicates their space in the harbor.

yes, wheels are in motion.
We felt it was important to publish a confirm-able date, but are continuing to discuss Saturday with all parties.

Hmmm. Past years Wooden Boat Festivals have been held in conjunction with the SHTP. The Festival runs on Sunday. Boats arrive Saturday after Transpac entries sail off. Why not this year?

Jackie Philpott , working with CYC's Jim Erskine, has negotiated the start date on the Saturday of June 23. One day later than our current NOR, which will be amended. Thanks to Jim for pursuing further with the harbor team at CYC to make sure all the SHTP boats can be accommodated along with the arriving Wooden Boats.
