Hi there,
Could we please have an event on the SSS Facebook page for the race start? I think it would be a nice way to share what's happening with friends.

There's a facebook page? I had no idea. But then again I don't utilize social networking, so I would never think to look for such a thing. What's the URL?

Thanks for the link. Looks like that page hasn't been updated since April and contains very little substantive information. This suggests the page is not being maintained.

I couldn't see beyond the page the link pointed to as facebook wants me to login to see more and I don't have a facebook login (and I'm not going to create such a login).

You're right though - the page should either be maintained or it should be deleted. Stale, out-of-date information is not helpful to the SSS. If it were up to me, I'd delete it as we already have a web site and a forum - I don't see the benefit to adding a facebook site to manage.

The Facebook page was, I believe, started by Max sometime back.
As Rob suggests, it has been intermittently been maintained (at best).

I see no inherent harm in it, although having stale and out of date info and content does no-one any good.
Let me speak to Carlianne before we do anything to it.
getting back to Philippe's suggestion; it's not a bad one (I assume you are speaking of a "FB live" type event), but I'm hard pressed on who has the time to deal with it.

I was only thinking of an event, like this:

It takes a few minutes to set up.

A Facebook live would be fantastic! I know it seems like a serious commitment just when a lot of things are going on but anyone with a phone can get it done.

The question will be wrt zooming in the action. Someone could walk along the docks and get a few words from departing skippers'. Then a few words from each RC members. Then the starting sequence.

I know it's easy to overthink and want a good camera, maybe even a drone but really anyone with a smartphone and a good connection can do this :-)

I inherited the SSS website, forum, and FB page when I took on secretarial duties of the board. Tech stuff ain't my forte, and with trying to get the boat ready for the SHTP, I simply have no time for this. If someone else wants to take it on, you have my blessing. Most people seem to have migrated away from FB anyway.

Since I am unable to participate in the SHTP this year, I'll volunteer to help out with posting information during the race. If you're interested in help, contact me.

Thanks, Sean. Let me get thru this week and weekend and I'll reach out to you. If I don't get all the port lights and hattch reattached by Saturday with a shakedown on Sunday, I may not start and will have plenty of time on my hands!

Can you supply a drone ?

I was skipper for a team event with Spinnaker Sailing and one of the visiting crew had a drone. After 10 minutes or so his battery was going down and it landed "somewhere".

I don't have a drone ... But it sure would be nice!
