Good info last night - thanks to all.

I was wrongly chastised a couple years ago regarding the restricted area around the island. Once again it was said last night that you can't go within 1,000 feet of the island. That's not what I've read - it's 300 feet. I don't recommend getting that close but legally I think you can:

If someone has more information about this, please post.

Good link Bob.
I note the speed limit of 5 knots within 1000 feet of any of the islands.
Anyone know if they have a radar gun out there?

I can hear the sirens now, and the bull horn: "Sailing vessel Nightmare! Pull over and prepare to be boarded!" [looks like one a them Transpac weirdos to me]

Vessel Traffic has very accurate radar.

I’d love to hear THAT story, Brian!

The biologists on the island do track vessel traffic as well as white shark activity. This is a sensitive place with lots of bird nesting and seal pupping right now. If something is egregious, the biologists will report it to DFW enforcement. I'd like to think that our little merry band of racers will represent the best of SSS. It's also just good environmental karma.

Sorry I missed y'all at the meeting. I had every intention of going but then put the auto pilot on and didn't look up from work until 9:30. I was pretty upset about that. This really motivates me to get a new calendar app that dings me (as it used to).

Hi SSS Racers:

Since I wasn't busy winning the race, I had time to take some pictures at the start (Werewolf) and spinnaker runs from the Farallones (Wingit and Outsider).
Taken at a distance (for obvious reasons) and cropped. Enjoy!

I would love to see those photos but I don’t do facebook. Any chance of a nondenominational option? Pretty please?

Thank you to Race Committee! What a fun day of sailing out there! I also have some pictures of folks out on the course....Where would be a good place to upload them for all to see? I noticed there was a Google Share setup for the Around the Rocks race...should we just add pics there? Any post race analysis out there? Looking at the results....it appears there may have been more gains staying south of the shipping lanes on the way out? Outsider: Where did you go? I lost you and Nina around Buoy G7 but did cross tacks with Werewolf just past the Lightship....Great sailing for all the finishers!

Very nice weather for the race. Brendan on the SC33 Siren won our division by a lot. Good job Brendan and which way did you go? I was thinking of one long port tack north once out past the lightship but covered the competitors instead. Please load your tracks on Jibeset so we can post mortem the whole thing. And thanks to the RC for having to deal with missing marks, swimmers and whales.

Yes!!! That's the whole idea is to share pics of the races. We'll also post a link to the SSS main page. Let the SSS webmaster know or post on the forum, if you have trouble with that Share site. Thanks :)

I think it's funny that singlehanders often take the most race photos. I took a few but they're of the island, so not that interesting.

It's probably good that Philpott isn't on Faceplant.

Many thanks Greg, Don, and everyone for going through the effort to post pictures here. Social-media-challenged croozing schlubs like me would not see them otherwise. Sail on, people.

Outsider: Where did you go? I lost you and Nina around Buoy G7We stayed on Starboard until quite a ways out and then did a number of hitches north closer to the islands.
