When are the 2012 Transpac race rules and conditions coming out? I have a budget but need to know the changes from 2010 to finish it.

The 2012 SHTP RRC's should be completed and posted by August 15th.

If anyone has a specific question now, feel free to email me at agoldman@csus.org.

One race over, next one begins!

Was there any discussion of changes? Will there be? Any more sneaky "hoops"?

Just some talk about a maximum age.

I got an advance copy of the Notice of Race and noticed this:

18.4. Yachts having completed 10 or more Singlehanded Transpacs shall sail two complete circles around Kaua'i before finishing. The direction of the circumnavigations is left to the discretion of the skipper.

And if you had read further, Adrian, it should say "All others do 3 circumnavs of Kauaii in a clockwise direction...no choice". Think about how much fun it would be to tack upwind from the Napali Coast 3 times...
Are you ready???

Is their an IRC section for the solo transpac or is it all Phrf?

Hmm, there's an interesting idea.

To answer your question, it's PHRF, sort of. Traditionally the SHTP has been scored TOD with PHRF ratings as adjusted under the old "Pacific Cup Rating" formulae. This generally keeps the faster boats at about the same rating while sweetening the rating for the heavier boats.

Due to AJ's recent move to New Jersey, Rob Tryon is the new SHTP 2012 Race Chair (as announced at last night's SSS meeting). I'm sure Rob will be looking at all this.

Any update on when the 2012 rules will be out?? Can I feel safe estimating costs based on the 2010 rules??

yes. word on the street is that there will be no additional equipment requirements and no increase in any direct race-related costs.

Any "special" rules concerning multihulls?

Do a lot of people do the SHTP without insurance? Not just a lot..... ALL. I have only heard of a few people who claimed to have insurance and they were military policies, as mentioned. It's pretty tough even to get fully crewed insurance for a Hawaii race.
