    And then there is today's forecast, which is incomprehensible to me:
    TODAY
    SW WINDS 5 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT.
    NW SWELL 3 TO 5 FT AT 9 SECONDS AND S 3 FT AT 14 SECONDS.
    PATCHY FOG.
    What does it mean that there are nw swells AND s swells? Hmmm? That is, what would it mean to sailor in a 20' boat?

    ps I also sail in the Berkeley Friday night beer cans, and there has been some wind out there, too. I'm the only single hander and sometimes I get exasperated by the comments, but it is what it is.

    I wonder if I can get some advice, please? I just registered my first PLB and plan to go outside the gate for the Half Moon Bay Race on my Cal 20. I sailed out past mile rock once (inadvertently, after being flushed out in the ebb during the Fiasco) and so I know that the bay and the ocean are different. ha ha. Like the whole world was under my hull, heaving up and then down, slowly. But that was then, and this is now. I have located offshore weather reports, so that's one thing. I have a handheld radio and a handheld gps doohickey. I feel fine sailing in the bay with a smaller jib in winds up to 25 knots, so it's not wind that is an unknown to me, it's the waves and "swell" and how those are going to feel that are a bit scary just because I haven't really experienced them yet. Given that I can handle almost anything the bay has handed me (I finished the 2010 Corinthian, in which there was lots of carnage), can you tell me what to expect of the following type information (this is NOAA's forecast for Aug 3)
    WED
    NW WINDS 15 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 3 TO 5 FT.
    NW SWELL 3 TO 5 FT AND S 3 FT. PATCHY FOG.

    Have you looked at the recently revised DW ratings? VALIS (my Pacific Seacraft 44) got much-appreciated adjustment, from 81 to 99. Some boats ratings were unchanged, and I have no idea what the PHRF rating folks are using to calculate the changes (or the base ratings for that matter).

    Good Morning,

    I would very much appreciate to get your explanation about why my posting regarding emergency rudder issues of yesterday has been ceised. I thought it might be of interest for your readership whats being available on the market in terms of safety at sea today.

    Of course I am aware that Hans Bernwall is considering this as his personal playground, even knowing that we of windpilot are manaufacturing SOS rudder now since decades.

    But while this might be an issue amongst competitors I thought that a forum administration would be able to spread useful information to their readers without restricting information that might be benefitial and important.

    Perhaps I should invite you for a closer examination to our product range... very certainly you may realize which kind of product improvements have been possible at a time where so many competitors standing still during decades.
