“At about 2000 hours on Monday, the Class40 sailing yacht Jeanne Solo Sailor capsized at a position about 14 miles northwest of the Sisargas Islands, west of A Coruña. The sole occupant, 62-year-old...
While others raced 110’s, did the LongPac, raced to Hawaii and/or had other great adventures, I spent the last month helping to prep and deliver a big charter yacht from Port Townsend to Juneau. At...
It looks like Howard (with local knowledge) nailed it without giving away the answer:
#4 Castle at Seabright Beach, Santa Cruz...
Jackie - Good luck at Mandeville. It can get VERY crowded. I like the east side of the tip about 200 feet north of the cut. You can come in very close. I like it there for swimming because there’s...

A few years ago when we were looking for Oahu marina options for PJ, about the only place that had openings was Ko Olina Marina north of Barbers Point. It’s not particularly convenient to marine...
re:Rolling the boat onto 20th Street at some point.
This sure sounds like an opportunity for your Fan Club to help. I’d be happy to come direct traffic. I have a bright vest and even a few orange...
It’s now a few minutes before 18:00. Looking at MarineTraffic, it’s interesting to see that Todd’s GWENDOLYN, well past the Farallon Islands, still has a strong AIS signal. I’d like to know what...

My Sue enjoys telling a related story: Sue grew up sailing small boats on Keuka Lake, one of the Finger Lakes in up-state New Your. Keuka Lake is most famously known for the Penn Yan Boat Company and...
Stephen, Congratulations to you and the new owner. Good to hear that STARBUCK will remain local and that we will likely see her out racing with the SSS again. Such a special boat that was way ahead...
Is that you at the helm?
Please tell. Is there a story of how you chose 222?
OK, I’m in (and back). I don’t have any crazy weather routing software, but given the revised start time, and that this is a deliver (i.e. let’s not break anything), I say 47 hours 45 minutes...
Howard,
This is totally confidential: the new sail on CP is in fact not carbon fiber. David H. has incorporated a here-to-for rarely tested high tech material that incorporates a Flux Capacitor....
In the examples of results you posted, it’s notable that in one race you registered as Frederick Hoppe and in another as Ted Hoppe. Are they both you? Season scores are tracked by “skipper” not boat...
Gorgeous day on SF Bay today. None of the predictions held true. No clouds, warmer than forecast and a bit more wind, but there was THAT big ebb. Beware of those big steel red and green things...
I’ve owned three boats with built-in heating sources:
- 42’ cruising sailboat with Dickinson Newport Diesel Heater (requires 3” chimney thru deck)
- 24’ mini-tug with Force 10 Propane Cozy Cabin...
Please, PLEASE be careful and have plenty of ventilation in enclosed spaces with propane/butane devices that consume oxygen and produce carbon monoxide (CO). CO is the silent killer.
I have clamp envy. One can never own too many clamps.
Stephen,
Thank you for all the pictures. Please keep them coming. This is SO much fun to watch, and you make it look so easy. Maybe others will be inspired.
Question: What are the challenges...
And one who actually sailed singlehanded!

Howard,
Opportunity awaits! Milly has an “extra” 110 keel salvaged from one of those aging Kaneohe 110’s just waiting for a builder.
