Re the VHF: Are you set on Hi or Lo transmit power? This is set channel-by-channel and may be inadvertently set to Lo?
Hi Will,
We had a similar incident on my return from Hawaii last year. In my case, a Sperm Whale rammed us from behind about midway through the passage. It nailed our stern quarter and bounced off...
Possibly explains the noises but not the symptoms.
Interesting. So is this the real minimum requirement...to get a PHRF rating?
What was the original reasoning?
Why is the lower length limit 20 ft. Why not 15.35 ft?
Boat still on the hard in Monterey but if you're back in January we'll be ready for a sail.
...and thank you Brian for all the work you put in.
Hello All, This is the Whoo in Owl. I am currently in the hospital on IV antibiotics for an infection that I couldn't treat during the three week return passage from Kuaii. Owl is in a slip in...
Brings to mind: "... pry them from my cold, dead fingers."
Can someone chime in with the largest typical file size they have downloaded with the Iridium Go!? I don't see file restarts either.
The same thing happens in my backyard where I have tried it without the external antenna. I can transmit short texts but not receive larger files such as gribs. Works fine on the boat in the marina...
This is how I do it, also. The external antenna is important.
Good times!
This is not unusual. Do your lights flicker, too? But the Monitor windvane just keeps on keepin' on.
I'd be there but am on a provisioning run. How is you have such spare time?
"Comparatively, the R2AK makes the SHTP look a fleet of school teachers..."
All I can think of is the old saw: "Nothing goes to weather like a seven forty seven." Will we meet at The Tree this...
Congratulations, Carliane! What's you call? HopeTO talk to you soon out on the water. KM6 AHT
Go Rusty!
Jeez. Do I need to include a buck saw in my tools inventory?
I've had the PL-880 for several years. Great radio! I experience MUCH lower noise out on the ocean.
Yikes. Must have been quite a ride. Morningstar is now safely ensconced at Marina Village in Alameda. As of about 5 or 6am!
As of 2p Morningstar is beating her way up the coast, now a few miles north of Davenport. Doing about 3 MPH. Hoping it goes well..
Grrr. I'm stuck at the dock with a hatch frame not delivered back from the painter.
What are the definitions of TWS and TWA for each of these systems? (Some do it relative to the water and some to ground. Never sure which does what.)
Unlimited says the sales (sails?) brochure. But very limited compared to modern expectations. In my experience, a 60 kilobyte grib file is a big one for the IridiumGo. Unless they've fixed it, it...
