    Default Yra 2014 shorthanded circuit

The YRA is promoting shorthanded racing with a special "Circuit" in the calendar, which just came out. LINK.

I don't know that there is any meaning to "Circuit" beyond that of common interest.

Has anyone done any of the OYC Rites of Spring as shorthanded ? Or any of the others, excepting our own and ORYA races? I'm not sure about doing a W/L race SH, personally.

from page 34 of the 2014 Master Calendar:

    2014 SHORTHANDED CIRCUIT

The YRA’s Party Circuit and OYRA series both have Shorthanded Divisions. Go to www.yra.org for details. Sequoia YC has a shorthanded series for local racers. The Singlehanded Sailing Society hosts seven local races and the Singlehanded TransPac.

I did rites of spring 3 years ago in my cal 20 singlehanded. Trying to round Southampton shoal the wind switched from north to south and from 2 knots to 30 in 10 minutes, w a very strong current. Afterwards the Oakland Yacht Club offered a meal downstairs in the small meeting room, but not many people attended. We were all tired.

David, It's just a list of shorthanded races around N. California. Some are series (OYRA, SSS, PC), but most are single races, often "club level" that folks interested in sailing shorthanded can enter. I doubt if many boats from the Bay sail down to the MPYC for theirs, however. If you love single/doublehanding, there's no excuse not to sail most weekends in our part of the world. SSS membership gets you in.

About the OYC Rites of Spring. I've sailed the race off and on for many, many years, in my Newport 30, Santana 22, and now Wylie. It's often a fun race for shorthanders, I think. You can head back up the ditch and take part in the post-race activities, but I suspect most boats - especially someone like me from Sausalito head for the barn - and sometimes drive over to the OYC if there's time.

I'll try to attach my "finish" photo from the 2012 OYC Rites of Spring. Oh, I did pick up a trophy flag for the race, I said modestly. -- Pat

I remember that photo. Conditions were different that year. Were you sleeping up there?
