Default Transducer and i40 on the Express 27 for keeping it simple

    Sharing some knowledge/experience.

Because of the NorCal Offshore requirements, I looked for a low tech but up-to-date depth meter.

I currently have one thru hole which is too many, the 25 yr old Signet knotmeter paddle wheel.

    I considered the following options.

    1. Epoxy an in hull transducer. Questionable results because of my foam core.

    2. Drill another hole for a depth transducer. Like I said, I already have one too many.

    3. Ray Marine Triducer (speed, depth, temp) leaves one 2" thru hull hole, part number 22154, Analog model with i40 bi-data LCD display. Analog is important because if you use the Smart Triducer #22111 with the i40, it cannot be calibrated and only acts like repeater. Bought at Star Marine for about $219 for Bidata and $229 for transducer.

Here's a great resource to figure out if that new doohickey will go in the hole from the old doohickey:

A similar chart/search saved my bacon back in '05 when I bought new instruments. I was able to get sleeves to drop the Ray ST60+ transducers into the old KVH Quadro holes, which I'd paid big bucks to have faired in when I bought the boat.

Airmar makes almost all the transducers anyway. Even though they're a distributor, these folks were willing to sell me the parts I needed, once I knew the part numbers:
