    Default Hanalei: My Favorite Haunts

Ben and I have been blessed to visit Kauai 5 times since our 2004 honeymoon PacCup.

In 2012 I emailed a list of my favorite restaurants and sights to a few of the waiting friends. I'm reporting them here. Maybe other frequent visitors will add to this list!

Bar Acuda (Old School Market, end closest to the bay): http://www.restaurantbaracuda.com
Dark, quiet lanai featuring really tasty tapas, fresh unusual cocktails. Kinda pricey, but it's so tasty that we share a couple of plates and leave very happy. Reserve for a group. We're in. Open daily at 5:30. Owned by a former Bay Area sailor.

kilauea fish market, 4270 Kilauea Rd Ste F, Kilauea (on the way to the Lighthouse): around the back of this little "mall," with outside seating and poke to go. Very fresh fish, fish tacos, other wonders. Open M-Sat 11-8.

Kilauea Bakery & Pau Hana Pizza, 2484 Keneke St Kilauea ((in the Kong Lung Center across from the Fish Market): Come for the gluten-free Danish, stay for the great pizza. Yum. You can order a pizza to go and enjoy it while your racer finishes. Just like I did when George Lythcott's ENTIRE family surprised him at the beach in 2010. http://kilaueabakery.wordpress.com

CJ's Steak & Fish House, Princeville Shopping Center: You'll love it or hate it. It's got a salad bar, great cocktails, kinda standard fish and steak. And prime rib. And baked potatoes. We typically order prime rib and take rolls home to make sandwiches for several days. I always buy a souvenir glass, too. http://www.cjssteak.com/mobile/

Queen's Bath, near Princeville. "Great for Couples". Guess this rules out singlehanders.

Jibeset mastermind Ray Irvine heads to Hanalei next week. After 10 years of visiting, he says he has, and plans to, eat at every restaurant in Hanalei and Princeville at least once.

His favorite is Bar Cuda, as I mentioned above.

He highly recommends an early trip to pick up the best coconut cream pie in the world at "the place inside the mall next to the Market. On the left side as you head from the Shave Ice place to the photo place."

Pogen, Singlehanders do things together too. See the results of Jackie's "sailing tomorrow" event. 4 boat to get to one destination.
