Weather looks like a spin run from the S Bay to Angel. Set AP, go below out of the rain.

I will admit that when Dura Mater and I motorsailed out of the Richmond Yacht Club harbor there wasn't much wind. And it was overcast. And drizzling. But I was optimistic. Then we unfurled the killer sail from Bob and ... then we furled it back up. As we approached Ayala Cove I took the main down, turned the corner, and found that we were the only boat on the island. There was a cabin cruiser at one of the mooring balls, but that was it.

There was no ranger in sight, so I put $15 into the envelope and dropped it into the box. "Stay," I commanded, and DM stayed.

I hiked for 3.5 hours. It was a glorious hiking day: Not too hot, and then the sun came out. That works for me. I didn't see one other person on the island all day. There was a young deer on the trail and we stood still and looked at each other for about ten minutes.

It was curious and kept its ears up the whole time, listening. That Angel Island. It is a remarkable place, and right there in the middle of the San Francisco Bay.

Since the ferry isn't running, private boats are the only ways over. Got back to Dura Mater at 5:15 pm and unrolled that big jib, sailed back and was back in the slip before it was real dark.

Tomorrow's forecast looks like good wind in the bay, so off we go. And? What is this? A dinghy on my front porch. She's not allowed in the house, especially in the dining room, but she'll be perfect this summer in the Delta.

Thank you to Jim and Jen Vickers, who bought a "bigger better one" for JoyRide.

It's hard to tell from the photo angle - how big is it? Looks like you don't plan to use an outboard. Are those knobby things for oarlocks?

Wasn't there enough room for it under the lemon trees? (Oh, I guess that's meddling.)

It's a West Marine RU 250 and is 8'3". holds air well. Took it in overnight (since we live in Oakland) and it looks even bigger in the entry hall. I look forward to using it to explore the Meadows up in the Delta. I'll use a leadline. I can hardly wait.

Is anyone else sailing tomorrow (Saturday)? I'm taking Surprise! out late morning for the balance of the day.
