Default What's it Like Out There? Transpac Video Infomercial

For those considering the race for the first time, and wondering about the sail home, here is a video that shows what's like to solo a 32-foot boat to Hanalei Bay and back.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28TAdDu5L6U

I suppose there are a few differences from the SHTP.

--I don't fly a spinnaker at night (or day), as you'll be, although I am still pretty good at broaching.

--While you're steering attentively to exploit that 7 degree wind shift, I was lounging in the shade of the Sailomat.

--As you will ride the night squalls trying to stay in them, I reefed at dusk in order to not get out of my pajamas.

--While we both hallucinate some, yours is of finishing last, whereas mine is mermaids.

A solo sail like this one, racing or cruising, is a profound personal experience.

Add the camaraderie, organization and invaluable group knowledge of the Singlehanded Transpac, and what're you waiting for?

Steve Hodges and Brian Boschma, race veterans, make a guest appearance in the story. Ask them where to sign up.

    Regards from a fellow traveller

    Christian

Christian, I've stumbled across your video and found it fun to watch and entertaining. Thanks for sharing which is hard for singlehanders to do ; )

Christian, I enjoyed your video, too. These are often tedious to follow for too long, but your commentary kept me focused. That was really nice. However, setting up the video of your salsa dancing on the bow was a bit, hmmm, 'out there.' You're going to fit right in with the rest of this bunch

That's majorly motivating. I thought it was Chris Humann posting at first though - very similar sense of humor.

Following the R2AK makes me want to sail back in farther North - clear in at Port Hardy and sail down the inside of Van Isle. Or heck, sail to Ketchikan and do the R2AK course in reverse. But yeah, that video nails the trip home from the SHTP. 2016 will be ten years since I did it.

I have heard it said that "whenever there are two sailboats on the SF Bay it is a race". Maybe this will inspire similarly inclined sailors to videotape themselves dancing to music. I know that Richard VonEhrenkrook will dance when invited. What kind of music can I order up for you to encourage that video, Richard? Lots of room up there on the bow of the Can.

There isn't a lot written down about the sail home. I found Paul Kamen very encouraging:

Skip Allan's experience was not, but remains required reading:
