Do you use it underway, and if so, do you have a gimbal mount?
    Haven't tried it underway yet.
Yes, I have a gimbal strapped to the mast.
Gimbal is from new ocean wave. Pricey for what it is but works great.
I'll get some pics posted next week when I get back to the boat.

Last weekend found us in Prescott AZ for my nephew's graduation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He heads from there to Salem OR. for a job with Garmin in avionics. Sharp young man. Yes, I am a proud uncle

On our way home we made a couple stops. One to check out the London Bridge at Lake Havasu.
There is a distinct lack of masts in the area. Must not be very good sailing. Of course all the go-fast and patio boats may make it that way.
Used to be a pocket cruiser convention there, with trailer sailers from far and wide.

Found a neat spot to camp on the way home called Hole in the Wall. We will return with the fifth wheel to spend more time exploring.

So that's what that little doo hickey is! I've seen it on some boats around the marina. Go, Greg! Is that what you will use to send us news of Nightmare's Saga as you cross the Pacific?

Unlimited says the sales (sails?) brochure. But very limited compared to modern expectations. In my experience, a 60 kilobyte grib file is a big one for the IridiumGo. Unless they've fixed it, it can't hand off from one satellite to another. If it starts downloading and the satellite disappears over the horizon (< 15 minutes) it just drops the file and you need to restart. If you start again immediately you are likely to get a full 10-15 minutes of download since another satellite comes up when the other goes down and it is in view for about 15 minutes.

I don't remember what my record download is but it is probably less than 100 kB. Shocking in this day and age.

On the first few days out, if you want an updated full grib view to Hawaii, it will necessarily be restricted to low resolution (maybe 2 degrees and 12 hour intervals).

It's important to have a program like Xgate as your client for sat phone use. Request a GRIB and the connection is lost the file will continue when you reconnect. Still a pain but better than starting from scratch. You can get monthly or multiple month, yearly packages.

Just got the email set up.
For some reason yesterday I couldn't retrieve my email with the sat. phone number.
I'll try to download some gribs and upload a photo to see how it goes.
    News to follow.

Here is the Jetboil in its gimbal mounted to the mast.
The mast seems to be the most efficient location, and the mount is a quick connect if I need to move it out of the way.
The cup locks in place so I can pour from the whole assembly. If my hand were to slip the system returns upright.
