Time to start stoking the fires and get a group together for singlehanded ocean racing!

All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it is vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.

It's been four months since Greg's post and it's close to decision time. Currently there are four doublehanded boats registered for OYRA and no singlehanders yet:
2017 OYRA Entries
2016 was the inaugural season for the singlehanded division in OYRA and we'd like to see it continue. These races are a way to get extended tiller time in less-congested conditions, test your gear, try various sail combinations and other stuff you can't do during the more intense SSS Bay races. If you're planning to race an SSS ocean race you will already have the gear - the equipment lists are the same. Missing something? Let us know - one of us may have a spare.
It's a tight group of skippers who really enjoyed racing together last year. Would you join us? And please pass the word.

I'm in - Single handed - for most, if not all, of the series this year.
will sign up later today.
Went through Domino's offshore gear yesterday and realized its a flare renewal year.
and a new battery for the PLB.
expensive day for just sitting in the slip
ah well.

They're cutting back on the flare requirements (I think it's no more parachute flares) - check that if you didn't already know. Suckers are expensive!
Here's the 2017 list:

Defender's annual Warehouse Sale starts (online) mid-week. Best deals of the year - I'm "making my list and checking it twice."

thanks Bob... I thought I remembered seeing that...
I just had my plb rejuvenated by these folks in Rhode Island. Incredibly nice on the phone. Seems like a small operation. For $115 all inclusive they sent me a postage paid notice for the padded envelope in which I sent my McMurdo Fast Find, and one week later I received it back. Easy peasy.

As far as racing is concerned ... My main question is: where do all these races start from?
Double Espresso is in Santa Cruz and any race starting in SF Bay is a bit of a logistics problem ...
OYRA 2017: There's a good group of doublehanders but no singlehanders, so I'll sign up today doublehanded.
I bought a couple more flares yesterday and I think we're good to go - see you at the Lightbucket on Saturday!
Looks like three procrastinating single-handers crawled out of the woodwork at the last minute and signed up. Hope we have enough wind to get started. Michael J. Hylite
