    Default Stories of Isolation

    Hi,

My name is Ilana Kirschbaum, my father was Tom Kirschbaum, a member of SSS who completed the Transpac in 2008.

    His bio is here: http://sfbaysss.org/archive-shtp-websites/transpac2008/race_entries/feral_bio.html

This thread is about ultimately what happened to him: http://forums.sailinganarchy.com/ind...owtopic=108865
Currently I'm working on my thesis in graduate school (media arts/ virtual reality/) that in part explores the effects of isolation on the brain. If anyone is willing to share some stories or allow me to interview them about there experience I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm specifically looking to hear stories about why you seek out long periods of time alone at sea, moments of loneliness, strange and eerie moments, hallucinations, a feeling of the presence of ghosts on the ocean, and any moment of your mind seeming to do odd things at sea.

If anyone is interested, the project will be presented in May in Los Angeles, and in part tells my father's story.

I can be reached on this forum or emailed at ilanakirschbaum@alum.calarst.edu

    Thank You,
    Ilana Kirschbaum

    I bet that's calarts.edu not calarst.edu

Ilana, I remember your father very well, and was one of the SSS'ers that drove down the the Yacht Club to be there for his memorial service.

Wow! my wife and I were talking about Tom yesterday. I really liked that guy, we were prepping similar boats for the '08 SHTP, Tom had the MIFB, and I had a Contessa 26, we shared tips, motivation, and encouragement. I remember when you and your Dad sailed over to Honolulu together, he was so excited to have you on the boat with him.
