Default Ferry Traffic Protocol January 2017

New for January 2017, the US Coast Guard Sector San Francisco has provided a protocol with chartlets on the conduct of ferries in the Bay. Just in time for the Three Bridge Fiasco!

All SSS sailors are urged to read and comply.

Now if we could only get those tour boat operators to realize that they are neither ferries or vessels constrained by deep draft…

That's an awful lot of the bay to avoid!

When I see the word "Avoid" I assume that the information is advisory only. And I didn't find anything in a quick scan of Local Notice to Mariners, reinforcing this assumption. Anybody know better?

It totally makes sense to "avoid" the ferry terminals. Like duh?

But that enormous circle in the middle of the Bay between Alcatraz and TI? Half of the commercial traffic in the Bay goes through there, as well as about a snortzillion recreational boaters every weekend. "Avoid" seems...well....advisory. Yeah, that's a good word for it.
