    Default New Boat 4 Tchoup

Apologies to Sleddog but I’ve been thinking about a different kind of boat for myself as well. Something that can also go the Interstate 5 PNW to Baja (and mountain lakes in between) towed behind the minivan range.
I’ve really been enjoying the Micro-cruiser and Everglades Challenge and Race to Alaska threads and I think I’ve found my favorite design.

So what do you say AlanH? Grab the skerry and come out for some Bay Area RAID. Solosailor get that outrigger going.
How about Horseshoe Cove to Owl Harbor?

And so yes, Starbuck is for sale.

    THAT looks like fun!

The thing with these little boats is that you have to re-think what's fun about sailing. You won't be hammering up the slot at 3:00 in the afternoon in July on RoG.

What got me going on the skerry was visions of beach camping in Puget Sound and Maine. Come to find out that in fact you can't really do much of that around here because there are only about 3-4 places from San Jose to Stockton where you can pull up on a beach and pitch a tent. It caused me to re-think, and if I were doing it again I might get/build a more performance-sailing dinghy.

If I didn't have visions of another SHTP, then something along the lines of a 17-18 foot version of what you've got right there would strongly appeal. HOWEVER... Horseshoe Cove to Owl Harbor, YES!

A few years ago Melusine showed up in the annual Small Boat Review, and I was pretty taken with the design.

Shortly after Melusine, that same yard produced something similar, but about a foot shorter... Lili 6.1

    The plans are $$$, though.

    Hi Tchoup,

That really is a nice micro-cruiser. Rowable. It seems like they want $2500 for cut ply and maybe a ~10k budget all-up? Not that bad really.

    https://www.bedardyachtdesign.com/de...micro-cruiser/

I had a 17' sail-row cruiser myself before the big boat.

It was fun, but did not point very well at all. I'm probably spoiled by now. I can't believe that was more than 10 years ago.

Now I'm still procrastinating on the canoe, and sometimes thinking about a Seascape 18. I got a quote on one, they are not cheap.

A great place for inspiration, ideas, and resources is the Wooden Boat show the weekend after Labor Day in Port Townsend, WA. http://nwmaritime.org/wooden-boat-festival/ I went about 10 years ago, and now I have more time may go this year again.

If you are ever down in the south bay stop in for some alcohol and sawdust.

Hey, David! Sounds like Desolation Wilderness on water.

    Outriggers come on!

    Pogen,
I heard Temerity changed hands. Congrats and condolences. I like the Seascape 18 as well. But once the parameter of getting a PHRF certificate was lost, I started thinking smaller.

    Solo,
Without the motor mount, I couldn't tell which way she went.
    Wait. Which way is which?

I didn't know you had an Ulua! Looks nice.

I'm always hitting slow spots because of the very sparse instructions. Mine has been on hold for years.

Maybe I should visit you for alcohol and sawdust. I can bring some alcohol if needed.

Thanks Steve. I'm still decompressing. I started thinking about Race 2 Alaska, a guy did it solo in a Seascape 18, but I think that race is too much for me solo.

Outrigger goes on port. I think the gods demand it. Splash guard is on the bows of the main waka (hull). The hull is slightly fatter in the stern.

Your welcome to check her out anytime. I've got her flipped right now to take off the varnish and most of the epoxy to fair her out correctly. Just about ready to add a few coats of epoxy back on.
