A boat with a heavier, shorter mast is not going to be faster. The Open 40 is worth $<50k. You would also never be able to sell it vs. the Class 40.

My thinking too (wrt resale) but that old LC 40 has not proven very fast ... https://www.class40.com/fr/bateaux/30-changabang.htm

There are many margin Class 40s that are not fast anymore compared to the last few generations, but at least it's still a Class 40. An old Open 40 with a makeshift rig is only worth it at an extreme deal.

Something about maintaining intimacy while repairing your boat in exotic places (aka "cruising"). My pleas that I was a singlehander did not deter her: "Yes, a good autopilot can really help!" Maybe there's a new marketing angle for Pelagic.

Looks like Jeanne Socrates will finish her second nonstop solo circumnavigation from the west coast today or tomorrow....making her the oldest person to do so. Have to admire her determination.
