I just grabbed the 2017 safety requirements. Do y'all anticipate any significant changes?
Joan is making noises about getting me a PLB for my birthday, nice!!

After Tom's presentation last night (great job BTW!), I had to find my button:
I went with the InReach...
Hey, I resemble that statement!!

Love the sea lions
InReach here too.

Online courses are available.
https://www.ussailing.org/education/...t-sea-courses/
SSS races require the half day course at minimum, which is the Coastal Safety at Sea course.
https://www.sfbaysss.org/main/racing...-requirements/
I did the coastal course in person, the offshore course online, and a hands on class in person.
An online course is easily done in a day or a couple of evenings.

HI Tom and gang.. I'm hoping to do the race, but as a newbie have a few questions/concernsRegarding AIS receivers.. having no experience whatsoever in this area, do folks have recommendations? I see I could upgrade my VHF (I have an Icom currently) to a unit that includes AIS receiver capability.. any suggestions, pros/cons, etc? Is it possible to rent a portable unit? Other options other than a big investment before I find out via the LongPac if I wish to pursue ocean racing in the future.. this would be my 'test drive'!
Also, it was discussed having a seminar or two sometime on the earlier side to help out.. any dates or word on this at this time? I'll be out of town June 20-27th, and if one is happening the sooner the better just to help get things prepared. Any info helpful.. thanks mucho!
