In Port Townsend, days before the start of the race, the small boat harbor was bucolic. I walked over to see if Mr Pelagic was still around, confirming that the software in his customers' autopilots were functioning as they should. Mr P had left already, so I introduced myself to the crew of the s/v Triceratops. Team Given' the Horns would go on to do very well during the first day of the serious race out of Victoria, as you can read below.

More detail below. We only saw 32 knots of wind sustained. We did take a reef from time to time: https://youtu.be/gc6UZXegw0I. We had trained extensively for these conditions either gybing: https://youtu.be/09cDHXdn4K8 as an example or driving: https://youtu.be/huyAncIHMfk as an example so we were quite familiar with how the boat behaved in these conditions.

We had identified three drop off points for 2 cyclists. We organized team and gear for that possibility. We checked the forecast at each point but no solid weather system all the way up to Bella Bella made us decide to keep everyone on board - we biked 25% of the race time so that was a good decision. Afterwards, we didn't think that two additional crew would greatly affect boat speed in the expected conditions...and by then we really liked the idea of finishing together

Actually, this boat isn't very difficult to drive in those conditions...(ie I can drive it, not as fast as Tanguy can of course)
