BEAVER has finished first 2019 R2AK at 3:59 pm PDST. Big congrats to them!
I'm guessing PEAR suffered some breakage in last night's breeze-on.

I may be wrong (no surprise), but there is an ANGERY BEAVER - Richmond YC connection. I think it’s the former VELVET HAMMER owned/raced out of RYC by Zackery Anderson and Will Paxton. For part of the R2AK they had their AIS on and the former boat named showed.

Yes, this is the bfka Velvet Hammer (or Hamster, or other less post-able names). Now back to SECRET SQUIRREL, which was its name for most of its life, it's the black Schock 40 that for years sat alongside Glenn Hansen's old shop at Naval Air. Zack and Will fixed it up and did a bunch of races with it before selling it to the Seattle guys and buying a J/125, now named VELVET HAMMER.

SLAG just had to gybe out. SUAD should have them now.

Yep, SUAD now a half-mile ahead.

Now over three miles ahead. SUAD will also have to gybe out but for a shorter distance, closer to the finish.

TRICKSTER, an F-28 tri, appears to have sailed into a black hole, turned 180 and has been sailing up Ogden Channel that leads in the wrong direction...

Still no word from PEAR SHAPE tri an hour after BEAVER finished.. ???

A comparison of the Figaro II (SUAD) and the Melges 32 (SLAG):

The Figaro (in stock config) is 6,724# vs. 3,988# for the Melges. The Melges has a much larger kite but it's asymmetrical - a disadvantage for the last leg up the river (if it stays DDW). Not that it matters for this race but the Melges rates 21 sec/mile faster in PHRF. It planes much sooner but that won't help in the dying breeze. I think SUAD has a better peddling system.

SUAD now over eight miles ahead and speeds are equalizing. Pear Shaped is about 30 minutes out.

At 1820 SUAD is 16 miles ahead of SLAG.

Pear Shaped Racing just finished and won the steak knives.

Nice movie! I hope there are more in the editing room.

I have a diploma with UVM on it, I must have been that young at one point in time (a half century or so ago).

Nathalie has promised to come with her crew (including "the Millennials") to Richmond Yacht Club to discuss the Race. Pear Shaped Racing has agreed to do the same. Details to follow.
