Default kick-up emergency rudders for smaller boats

Thanks to John Foster for passing along this link.

For fixed blades, look at their listing here:

For a kickup rudder assembly that includes pintles, blade, tiller...the works, for a Catalina 25, look here:
    http://www.idasailor.com/catalog/pro...roducts_id=462

Note that a Catalina 25 displaces between 4,100 and 4,500 pounds, depending on the year and the model. This is more than a Moore 24, SC 27, Express 27 or even an Olson 30. I'm not saying that a Catalina 25 rudder will steer an Olson 30, but it's worth a look-see and maybe an e-mail or two.

A kick-up rudder is going to be a LOT easier to deploy that a straight blade, and something along the lines of blade/cassette system and I note that a fixed HDPE blade that would likely work for my Santa Cruz costs $369 and that includes pintles. I'd hazard a guess that a kick-up system would be under $800. That's a bunch of money, but then it's also no work at all.

They say their biggest rudder blade is able to handle boats of about 8,800 lbs displacement.
