Default SH Transpac veteran lost off SoCal??

The news report name the skipper of Feral, Tom Kirschbaum, as lost at sea this weekend. I don't have any further confirmation other than this news report and a posting on Sailing Anarchy:

I didn't race the 2008 edition, but this is a sobering reminder not to take what we do for granted...

I believe the CG search is still on.

My thoughts and prayers go to his family....

I just spoke to the Coast Guard in Southern CA and they have stopped the search for Tom Kirschbaum. He is apparently lost. As others have said, our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

If anyone would like to send Tom's wife Gayle and daughter Ilana a note, I have their mailing address. Send me an email and I'll reply back with it.

I just heard from Eric Lambert, a good sailing friend of Toms, and a sailor from the PSSA. Tom's body was found off of Long Beach, he was wearing his pfd.

A hard, hard end to this difficult tale. My heart breaks for Gayle and Toms daughters.

I would ask that discussion of the applicable safety issues take place at an upcoming SSS meeting and that we save this forum for our condolances to his family, and good memories of Tom and Feral, of which there will be many.
