Well done!!
Congratulations !
Thank you to all for the support and good wishes! Wonderful to have my dear sister Marilee and Tom out on the water. We could hear your cheering which helped inspire us to leave nothing on the table in effort.
Here's a good photo taken by Mike O'Shea ~ 30 seconds before the finish of the 7th race. We are the gray boat, SMART SHOES,#695. Just to windward and aft is Ross and Attila on BANANA, about to crack off in an attempt to gain an overlap in the 3 boat length "zone" at the port end of the finish. They nearly succeeded. Bren and Erik on the red hull, LADYBUG, 3rd and to leeward. LADYBUG is consistently well sailed, and especially fast upwind..4th place, far right in photo, is SHENANIGANS, with Olympian Eric Bentzen and son Blake on the trap, from Poulsbo, WA. SHENANIGANS new construction was impressive and able to sail a self rescue from capsized and filled, to underway and dry in seconds. Standing on the 300 pound fin keel of a 110 is an occasional practice on these narrow hulls. I've never done it.
And here is another photo, 2-3 seconds before our final finish. We are about to luff to cross the finish, with BANANA overstanding, well eased, going full tilt boogie, but coming up just short.

Skip, Very exciting and well done, but then why are we not surprised?

I have mixed emotions about the finish, being a long time member of the YELLOW boat club for one, but knowing there was a Frog sailing on the gray boat, it became obvious that Smart Shoes had too much sole SOLE to lose

Do some of the boats still fly assy spinnakers?
Jonathan: Good question. Though asymmetrical spinnakers remain legal on 110's, I've never seen one used. The predominance of courses are windward/leeward. We did sail one modified Gold Cup course during the Nationals (triangle, triangle, windward, leeward). But no one went to the bother of changing sails in their spinny launching tubes while racing.
I drove up to Tomales Bay, talked my way onto a RIB with Dudley and John situated at the windward mark on Wednesday, the second day of the regatta. I missed the t-boning and one or two other mishaps. These photographs are of Skip and Sean circling the mark: They are easily photographed because they were out in front. I have more but I'm supposed to be working. Later I'll post stories and photos of the other pretty boats with their skippers and crew.
Tomales Bay really is a gorgeous place, on a boat or otherwise. Wait. Everywhere's better on a boat.
