To these questions, in order:
There is, of course, an identical strap on the port side. These are the stainless steel plates installed to take the bridle for the Jordan Series Drogue he carried. He had the load calcs done, and that's what you're going to need on a 2,000 pound boat. Don't try hooking the bridle to the slotted toe rail on your croozer. He had no occasion to deploy the JSD on this circuit.
I don't know the particulars of his sheet-to-tiller system, but he used it about as much as the tiller pilots for self steering all the way around the world.
The "Great Cabin," so named with evident irony, is the salon. It provides sitting headroom for him when he is seated on the floorboards facing aft. He says he is probably the only person who, on going below on a Moore 24 for the first time thought "this is roomier than I thought it would be."
The goose neck barnacles were a small cluster on either side of the bow area, just above the waterline. There might be a picture that shows them.
